it could cause you to crack a tooth or if there is a weak molar it could damage this ~~ I had this happen chewing some ice and the dentist told me this was the number one cause of people chiping off a tooth

Oh yes it sure can. The combination of super cold enamel and the force used to crush the ice can cause micro cracks. These micro cracks can turn into flaked off enamel or deeply cracked teeth. Erosion of the teeth is also a common side effect. Having your teeth taken down to the pulp is NOT a pleasant experience.

Of course it does. I see it every day at the office. So many cracked teeth! If you find yourself COMPULSIVELY chewing on ice cubes instead of just "wanting to", you may have what I had, and that was an iron deficiency (anemia). If this is true for you, a simple blood test will let you know.
