  • For one thing, NASA has never brought a sample of martian rocks back to Earth. All of our missions there to date have been one way. We do have some rocks that appear to be Martian in origin, but they all fell on Earth as meteorites. Second, when we do finally bring sample back to Earth, I am sure that they will want to keep them in sealed container and rooms so as to minimize any potential contamination by Earth's environment. This would have the double benefit of preventing any potential microbes from being able to escape into our environment.
