Well said! The only exception ever to this rule for me has been Lord of the Rings, the books did my head in.

I still preferred the LOTR books over the movies. The movies were good, but they still took too many liberties with the story.

I can understand many people saying this, especially those who grew up with LOTR books. However, I never did and had Enid Blyton as my favourite author. Personally I found the books a bit too dense and, for want of a better word, waffley. I confess I am guilty of only reading them after seeing the movies, not something I usually do. However, I do agree that in many respects paper and celluloid versions differed greatly. As usual, books can contain some much more detail, simply by their insightful and omnipotent nature.

I don't mind movies cutting things out of books in the quest to streamline things for the sake of the movie. What gets me is when they actually change essential elements of the story. Especially in the second movie, I think that they took too many of these types of liberties.
