Oil immersion is used to lessen light refraction so resolution is increased. Wet mount only works with oil immersion as it has the same refraction. Hanging drop slide lets refraction light all over the place and oil immersion objective added to it would only compound refraction.

Hanging drop slide is too thick for oil immersion lens and would crack it.
