Because James also said that you're saved by works as well as faith. James 2:24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

In Christianity, we are saved by faith alone. We are still expected to do good works, but as a "result" of salvation through faith, as a way of showing our faith, not as an attempt to achieve salvation or substituting works for faith. The two go hand-in-hand, and both are required, but for different reasons.
