These vehicles have a magnetic contact in the door latch that sends the signal. Spray WD40 in the latch and this will usually take care of the problem.
It sounds like one of the door switches (most likely the driver side, since it gets the most use) for the dome light is loose or maladjusted or is failing.
The dome light circuit is quite simple and the door switch is the 'weak link' in it.

You're reading I have a 1999 ford f150, my interior dome lights stay on after door is shut, clicks on and off usally when brakes are applied
