When you go to a restaurant, have you ever walked out, only because, it took a long time for you to get waited on?

I walked in a steak house one time at 1 pm and there was at least an hour wait for a table so after about 10 minutes I left. I have been in fast food places that would have taken me 30 minutes to get waited on and I left.

Yes, a couple of times. If they look understaffed and are running around like crazy, I won't -- I'll be patient. But if I see the waitstaff standing around chatting with each other and I've been waiting for quite awhile, I will walk out. What is funny is when the manager always seems to see you do it and come chasing after you. I tell the manager why I'm leaving and when they beg us to stay we say no (I'm afraid of what they would do to our food at that point).

Absolutely. We even had reservations, and we waited over 45 minutes passed our booking. As we were walking out the door, someone approached us, but by then it was too late. That's the whole ever loving point of reserving something.

Yeah. It happened once at a Pizza hut and it was for a friend's birthday. We wouldn't have minded if it was busy and we could understand a situation like that but there was only one other table full at the time and the staff were just standing around talking and laughing, even as we tried to flag them down. They were real quick to jump up and say "Come Again" when we got up to leave though.

Yes, that happens on occasion. I really hate to do that because I go to a restaurant to eat because I'm hungry. I don't like leaving starved and then going through the process of finding another one. But sometimes it just has to be done. I have a short fuse. 20 minutes is my maximum.

yes i have believe me! i was ordering from subway and it took them forever just to get my order right!!! so we left and we ended going to burger king instead and was done in like 5 minutes!! LoL

It's happened a few times. Once it was about 20 minutes before I even got a menu and then I looked it over and the waitress is standing there and I then got up, looked at her and said "I don't see anything tasty, I'm leaving" She stood there stunned. I had to chuckle recalling that night!!

Yes. I like it when the hostess tells us how long the wait will be, and gives us a chance to choose whether we want to wait or not.

ya i was with my grandparents we had a flight to catch in like an hour so we went to ihop for breckfast. People who got there after us had already gotten their food and she hadnt even ordered r food!! so we got up and left. her excuse was i just got here give me a break!! like geeze

Yup... just tonight I patiently waited almost 20 minutes, didn't even get a water or menu. Walked up to the host, asked if we were sat in a section without a waitress. He apologized and gave us our drinks (tea and soda), gave us menus and said someone would be right over. Waited another 20 minutes and NOONE came over. I walked back up to him and told him I wanted a manager. I stood there another 10 minutes waiting for a manager. The whole time I was throwing a fit because they had to have HIS approval before I could leave without paying for my drinks! I was livid!!! Finally he came out and said, were they alcoholic drinks? In so many words I told him they were not and he said "ok you can go", like I was trying to get away with a crime or something! I went off on him! LOL. I can laugh now. About 2 hours ago, I was not laughing!

At least twice that I can recall...and once...I needed to get back to work...(I had told my server I only had so much time...) and she wouldn't bring the check! I did my best guess on the meal...and left some cash on the table...with a note...sorry, I waited almost 20 minutes for you to stop by so I could get a refill on the iced tea and get the check...don't know where you are, but I hope this is enough to cover everything... It was well after the normal lunch crowd...and not too busy over all.

We were in a restaurant once when I rang the head office of the chain (phone number on the menu) and explained that we'd been sitting there for ages, etc. I asked if they could ask our waitress if we could have our next course please. It duly arrived in seconds!
