  • Yeah here take mine
  • Go to your social security office and ask them and watch them laugh at you. You would have to cancel the old one if this is at all possible that's for sure.
  • It is possible. This is how. Legally change your name through court order. Then request a new birth certificate from the state/county in which you were born using the certified copy of the court ordered name change. With the certified copy of your birth certificate go to a local passport office. You will need photo ID in your new name. Drivers licenses are very hard to get without a social security number and you DO NOT want to associate your old social with your new identity. Go to a community college. Register for classes and get a student ID card. With the student ID card go to a library and get a library card. With the student ID and library card go to county auditors office and register to vote. Take your new birth certificate, student ID card, library card, and voters registration card to passport office. Apply for a passport. If they do not accept the SECONDARY identification documents (library card, voters registration card, student ID card) ask a good friend to vouch for your new identity by signing an affadavit that states that they have known you as your new identity for at least two years (they will need photo ID). Wait six weeks for your new passport. With your new passport go to the social security office and let them know that you're a US citizen (show them your passport) and that your parents moved you to Canada shortly after birth and never applied for a passport. Let them know that you recently moved back to the states and in order to apply for student financial aid / a job / a drivers license, etc you need a social security card. Those that work at the Social security office are bottom rung paper pushers that will not ask questions. They will see your official US passport and secondary identity items and process the paperwork. With new genuine identity documents and social security number you can start building credit for the new you. Good luck.
