I had it removed.
.
I had a severe hearing loss in both ears requiring some pretty snazzy surgeries.
.
In the right ear, the doctor replaced the "anvil" (Incus) with a plastic prosthetic (I call it a plastic chicken bone).
.
In the left ear the doctor removed a closteotoma (a benign tumor that eats bone if it gets to the mastoid), removed the stirup (Stapes), removed/reshaped/reinstalled the Incus, and rebuilt my eardrum by skin graft.
.
I have had much of my hearing restored, but it will never be like it used to be when I was younger.
.
All in all, I'm quite lucky about it!

In UK an ass is a donkey not a butt. It is a term anyone will use without thinking twice. The bible also says you must not covet thy neighbours ass or his wife etc. Here a butt is the end of a cigarette and a bum is an arse but a less vulgar term. Complicated aint it.
