  • Oh, yes. Any sort of writing is a woderful way of expressing yourself, but poetry is "magical".
  • Yes, I think poetry is a great release for emotions. It relieves emotional tension to write things down, and often the process of trying to make your writings poetic helps you clarify and organize your thoughts.
  • Yes. Coming from an abusive home and dealing with the fallout through out my twenties, I used poetry to help me express myself. Any kind of communication, even poetry or quotes, is better than no communication.

  • If you can write in a poetic way, then yes, if you can not write how you truely feel, in a poem, then I would say, no, just write like you would in a journal. It is more cleansing to the soul, if you feel what you are writing. I myself love poetry.
  • It's not a good way to express my feelings. And I don't like it being used as a medium *only* for self-expression. The trouble with lots of what people call poetry is that it equates "feelings" with poetic creativity. Poetry has existed as interactions between words that create feelings and emotions in the listener/reader for millenia. But at some point in the last 50 years the "direction" of poetry flipped over - now people express on a page. The truth is in the words, not the emotion. I expect this will be an unpopular answer... :o
