  • I might believe them but I am not into the conspiracy theory thing with "manufactured: viruses. I understand how in modern "agribusiness" they have so finely tuned the genetic manipulation of the animals so as to create a monoculure that is confined in very close quarters with tens of thousands of like animals, closely housed to areas populated to humans. I can see where under these conditions, a virus might leap from the animal world - into humans.
  • Do you mean if we discovered that H1N1 was created in a laboratory? Because swine flu viruses have been around for a very long time. The global pandemic of 1918 was a swine flu. At the time though our understanding of flu and viruses in general was very, limited. We didn't even really know the methods of transmission then or that it was caused by a virus. So it's unlikely that it was created in a laboratory. Swine influenzas have probably been around for most, if not all, of the recorded history of influenza; which is to say for as long as we've recorded history. The first mention of what was likely flu was recorded by Hippocrates in 412 B.C. Oh, and flu viruses are expert mutaters. They evolve quite efficiently on their own without help from the laboratory bound. They've got the best laboratory in the world. Living organisms.
