  • japanese (sp?) black mushrooms!!!
  • I adore morels but have never found one in the wild. Same goes for truffles. When hunting wild mushrooms, chanterelles are my favorite findable prize. I love their color in food, they taste delightful, and they are quite easy to visually identify. I've heard of people mistaking a rusula (russula emetica) for a chanterelle, but the gill-like ridges on the lower side of the cap extending down the stem are unique to this species. False chanterelles (hygrophoropsis aurantiaca) look similar but more funnel-like, and give a distinct spore print. And while they may be easier to confuse with the Chanterelle than the Rusula, they are, unlike the rusula, edible. I hear they don't taste very good though.
