To work this out you need to know the gram molecular weight of each element involved. This gives you the relative mass of each atom. Excess hydrochloric acid means all then magnesium is consumed. 0.24 grams.. HCl is hydrochloric acid... which will react to form magnesium chloride, and liberate hydrogen. What's the formula for magnesium chloride? I don't know and i'm not going to look it up. I'm not doing a chemistry course. But let's suppose it is 3 chlorine atoms in each magnesium chloride... That would mean that 3 hydrogen atoms were released for each magnesium atom. so the mass of hydrogen would be 3 * 0.24 * (molecular weight of hydrogen) / (molecular weight of magnesium) Find out the real figures and work it out and you have your answer.
