Why can't people just not make a big deal out of things and act all crazy and desparate when we tell them we don't want to be with them anymore because we want to be with someone else? The easier it is to break up with someone, the easier it'll be to not cheat :)

Because it is unnatural? Biologically speak, a male's over all fitness is determined by the number of off-spring he creates that survive, generally through multiple partners. A female's level of fitness is determined by the number of off-spring she has that survive to procreate. Best way to ensure a large number of off-spring have a chance at survival is by having varied genetics. This is only possible through multiple partners. The animals in nature that are mostly monogamous are this way purely for the sake of ensuring the off-spring survive to procreate. Similar thing anthropologically speaking. The urge to mate and be together around the world, generally leaves after 4-7 years. This is because those first few years are there to create and raise a child to the point where two parents are no longer needed to ensure the child's survival.
