When I was a kid I thought they knew everything and were right about it. By highschool I thought they were morons. After my first baby I realized how much my mother knew, and that my dad really was a moron.

About a year ago. They really tried to help me see what was best.

I always had respect for my parents ... I owe them that much at least ... my parents were quite young so, they were more like friends than a boss ...

They go decidedly smarter around the time I turned 22 or so.

Not all that long ago. When I moved out and started seeing things from an adult's eyes. Thats when I realised that they are human beings, and can make mistakes sometimes. Not this infallable creature that I was often led to believe as a child by other adults. (That adults knew better all of the time, and that children were often wrong.)

When I was about 20 or so... then it really hit home when my son was born.

It didn't occur to me until quite late in my life. I was about 29 or 30. I was very sure I had all the answers and wasn't even aware that I could be wrong. It just never occurred to me. Now that I am older I cringe at what I used to be and am so grateful that I finally see that I don't know everything.

I have always respected and loved my parents. My dad passed away 10 years ago. I sure miss his wisdom and patience. I visit my Mother about once a week and stay overnight. I love listening to her talk about her childhood in Ireland. And she still gives me good advice even now.

I never thought my parents were morons until I became an adult.
