My doc told me that the color on your tongue is from your tongue sheding taste buds which is normal it happens every week, but since your tongue is recovering from the pierce it is more noticable. Also it could be from using listerine too much and killing too many tastebuds too fast. If you can stand it you can brush your tongue with a nonwhitening tooth paste and help shed the taste buds faster, just try not to over rinse with listerine! Also the skin in front of your tongue is a defense mechanism your body does to try to close the hole. It should go away gradually, but just use common sense and if it get too painful go to the doctor! Try eating some soup without tomato because tomatos are acidic just like lemons so that could make your tongue sore and sensitive. Stay away from tomatoes, hot stuff (temp. and spicy), and anything acidic. I got my tongue pierced and it took almost a week to eat normally. Just take it slow and eat ice and hold cold water in your mouth.

that's pretty normal, be sure to use half strength listerine anytime anything goes in your mouth that isn't water and keep sucking on ice for a few more days

I just had mine done 2 days ago, the skin around the piercing is a little whitish-yellow but that's normal, I've been carrying a water bottle around with me after freezing it overnight and drinking it pretty much all day and it's really helped.

As they people above said, stay away from hot food, spicy or acidic food. I ate some no salt french fries the day I got it, but they were very cooled off and I would eat them in small pieces putting them between my mollars so they wouldn't bother my tongue.

If anything, take some motrin, that helps reduce my swelling and pain.

Hope everything works out, oh and if you want you could go to your piercer and ask them, they'll for sure know, and use alcohol-free mouthwash, less burn more clean and it'll heal faster.

What are you using to keep it clean? You really should get a 20 ounce of BOTTLED water and dump half of it out. Fill the rest with antiseptic mouth wash. Every time you eat, drink, smoke, etc...anything goes into that mouth in other words, you need to rinse. This will help with any infection as well as healing. Also, it is very common for there to be callouses around the piercing. DO NOT pick them off! they will go away with time.Often times the swelling will very as well. Sleep with an extra pillow under your head to help with that and take an anti-inflammatory med.

Hey....I had my tongue pierced a while ago......The little flap of skin and swelling will go away eventually.....My swelling was gone completely in about a week..........Every time I would smoke or drink or something the bank of my tongue would be like a dark brownish color and I was starting to think my whole tongue was decaying but after a couple of weeks all that cleared up and everything was normal.....As long as your using the listerine like they told you to you will be fine.........They say gargle it everytime you eat, smoke, or drink anything besides water for 6wks after you get it done.......I did it like that for about 1 week and hald then i did it about 3 times a day for another week and I was good!! You should be OK! Let me know how everything turns out!!

This is normal. I would not reccommend listerine tho. Use diluted Biotene. It's not alcohol based so it doesn't sting but it has the strength of a listerine. That flap of skin will go away eventually. Be careful what you eat, if your eating salty or acidy foods its going to sting! Stick to oatmeal, apple sauce, mashed potatoes, etc. until its healed. After the swelling goes down you can enjoy your piercing more!

I think you may need antibiotics, at least an oral rinse like chlorhexidine gluconate, or possibly an anti-fungal type medication. I would see your doctor if you are having discomfort still.

I got mine pierced 4 days and the swelling isn't bad although my tongue is sore and tender. But I have been using a alcohol free mouthwash free eating and drinkining and I woke up this morning with sores developing in my mouth that don't feel very good either. I'm not sure why but I was scared to get my tongue pierced to begin with so now I'm freaking out. Advice??

Tongue piercing usually take between 10-14 days to fully heal, it is almost impossible to develop an infection because the mouth contains an enzyme "Ptyalin" and Lingual antimicrobial Peptide (LAP) which kills bacteria. Overuse of mouthwash destroys these which can cause the tongue to go green or brown, if this happens reduce the amount of mouthwash you use.
You will experience swelling the first day you get the piercing, but the worst swelling will be from 2-5 days after the piercing, during which time your tongue will be very uncoordinated and you may find it very hard to talk. The only food you will be able to eat during the first 3-5 days are things like mashed potatoes, canned spaghetti mashed up etc. or fruit and milk drinks made in a blender.

During the healing process you may experience one or several of the following problems, don't be alarmed they will all stop once the piercing is healed. Your salivary glands will overproduce saliva and this will cause you to constantly swallow, this may last for up to 5 days during which the salivary glands (under the chin) can become swollen. The tastebuds on the end of your tongue may become tender and you might experience a tingling or burning sensation. You may experience tenderness where the balls on the barbell make a depression on the palate of your mouth and on the lower inside gum of your mouth. You may see a white fluid being excreted by the wound, don't be alarmed is just dead white blood cells it's a normal part of the healing process, all wounds heal by secreting plasma which forms a scab, but because of the saliva in the mouth a scab can't form.

After 3-5 days the swelling will start to reduce, and between 7-10 days after the piercing you will have to insert the shorter barbell inserted,

so what you are desribing is pretty normal.

I got mine done about a week ago. I have experienced the white cells, skin coming off, and now as of today I also have a little bit of hardened skin right next to my bar. It doesn't hurt tho. I have mangaged to eat salad with LOTSS of Ranch dressing and some pasta with Alfredo Sauce. The underside of my tongue is normal in color and doesn't hurt at all. I use less intense Listerine 3 times a day. I use sea salt also and I have been brushing my tongue since Wednesday (once a day on this one-right before bed). Since eating the salad, pasta, I even managed Sweet-n-Sour Chicken yesterday, I have been swishing luke warm water in my mouth after eating to keep any food away from it. Ice chips and cold water! When my taste spuds started stinging, I drank cold milk. Took the burn away. Drink Water afterwards..lol. Thanks for the advice everyone. Hope mine helps somebody too!!
