What is meant by the phrase "listen to the one hand clapping?

It's a kind of mind teaser ... like, if a tree falls in the forest when no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? I've never heard it phrased like a command, like how you phrased it -- normally it's phrased like a question, "What is the sound of one hand clapping?" I guess if someone phrased it like how you did to me, I'd think they wanted me to shut up.
