I find many of them to be quite aggresive.

Hi, Antigone Rising, nice to see your happy kitty again! Welcome home. Here's my atheist perspective on this question: I think most Christians are opposed to the idea of atheism, but don't have anything against an individual atheist. It seems to me Christians feel I am incomplete, but not an enemy. After all, I'm not trying to steal Christians away in the dark of night and brainwash them to accept my personal non-belief system! I am more likely to be the target of their pity and their prayers, but rarely am the target of wrath.

I don't think there are any statistics to find that out. Being an Christian has nothing to do with being "anti-Atheist", however there is no doubt that a lot of Christians add that to their itinerary. Christians are commanded to spread their religion and have the added burden of thinking that anyone who does not follow Christianity will go to Hell. While I cannot speak for most Christians; I can speak for myself. I am not for atheism so I suppose that makes me anti-atheist. I do not think that an atheist is any worse than any other person who rejects Christ. I believe that a life with Christ is infinitely better than any other kind of life and I am anxious to share that life with everyone else; so, I evangelize. It hurts my heart to see someone reject God and I want to do what I can to help this person come into a life of salvation. But it is entirely up to each individual to make that choice themselves. I can't force it on them. I try to be salt and light in the world so that when you look at me you see the Light of Christ. It would be wrong if I didn't offer salvation to every person I meet. But, I am not going to say that if you don't believe what I believe you are going to hell. What purpose does that serve? I believe that if a person is listening then God will make himself heard without me beating them with damnation.

REAL Christians abide by the old adage of "Hate the sin, Love the sinner" We don't have to agree with your beliefs (just as you don't have to agree with ours) but we aren't here to judge you either. If a christian "attacks" you for being an atheist then they are dishonoring the theology they so vehemently follow.

I can not speak for “most Christians”, just for myself. I find that sometimes the strong feelings expressed by outspoken atheists shock me. It surprises me to find ones who do not attribute the wonderful creation to our grand and loving Creator. Some of the atheists I have met (including some her in the bag), show disrespect, irreverence, and hostility toward God and those who believe in one. I can never get used to such bitter attitudes. Each one chooses whether to serve God or not. It is a personal decision ,and I recognize that.

Anti-atheist in principle, but most are not rabid about it. We're a stock villain in tirades about persecution of Christians and generally about what's wrong with the world but I've never lost a Christian friend because of my atheism. I HAVE had to endure some very annoying conversion attempts (mostly from family) and displays of ignorance (so that means you worship Satan?!). I don't think not being for something makes you against it. Not being for atheism doesn't mean you have to hate or persecute atheists, and most don't. The ones that do are a severe pain and sometimes even dangerous. I've never heard of any complaints about atheists being more than annoying. I would like to hear some evidence that the religous are more fulfilled and happy and ethical than the nonreligious. Divorce and crime statistics don't seem to support this contention.

The two are not mutually exclusive, of course, but there do appear to be some Christians who’ll strongly denounce not just Atheists but all other religions and even Christian denominations other than their own are not spared. Perhaps Islam is more charitable to Atheists because Atheism is, so to speak, a gateway to Islam. Atheists declare “there is no god”. Anyone who wants to enter Islam has to start off by bearing witness to the same declaration followed by “except the universal God of all”

I'm a Christian, and am just a Christian. I feel sorry for atheists, but aren't against them.
