  • Exercise gently involving the abdominal region - walking, yoga. Heat on the abdomen - the old standby - try a hot bath or a hot water bottle. Essential oil of lavender rubbed into crampy areas feels great. Lavender is known for its relaxing, calming effect. Raspberry leaf tea. This is considered a good uterine tonic; some women find that drinking it before their periods helps with cramps. Try taking a calcium supplement regularly (I take even more during my cycle) and eating high calcium foods. Eating lighter and healthier around menstruation -- less grease, less starch, more fruits and vegetables. Ginkgo - try a ginkgo supplement, there is some evidence that this can help.
  • Ibuprofen and a warm water bottle. Place it on your lower back and lie down.
  • Ibuprofen.. Take four of the 200mg kind, which is equal to one prescription strength (800mg) ibuprofen. A hot compress on your back or lower abdomen can also help.

  • Boil some pieces of ginger until the water reduces to half it's original amount. Drink this remedy 2-3 times per day when cramping is at it's worst. You might want to add a little honey to improve taste. I suffer terribly with menstrual cramps and feel for anybody who suffers the same.Try to stick to natural cures if at all possible and good luck finding the remedy that works best for you.

  • I find a hot water bottle and the massage oil mixes mentioned by Herbaless work very well and my cramps sometimes cause me to vomit out of sheer pain. TRUST ME if it works for me it will work for you :)
  • try this one from the 1400's: poo a lot, which usually works if you are fat and/or welsh. OR eat some flowers for breakfast, particularly pansies. OR get your anger out by repetitively stabbing a poster of George Bush on the nose it worked 4 me
