  • Being kinda down is not being depressed. It is normal for the body to feel sad sometimes. If it continues you may have a mild depression and I would talk to an expert to see if you need some relief.
  • Yikes you don't want to go that path unless you are REALLY down. Many antidepressants basically addict you to them, and getting off of them too quickly can cause SEVERE AND REAL depression. Still for those who are really depressed (not just kinda down) they can save your life.
  • Not really. Try fresh air, exercising, a healthy diet, adequate sleep, socializing, proper hygiene, and a positive attitude. If that isn't working you could try talking with a therapist for evaluation.
  • Everyone gets depressed at times but that doesn't mean they need drugs. I don't push anti depressants on my patients. I try to actually find the cause of the problem and teach them to deal with it. There are some situations in which antidepressants have to be taken for the person to function and be able to deal with the problems. However if you are just "down" you don't need them. If It's a long term sadness, suicide, depression it is time to seek help.
  • Short answer: No. Infact, I suspect that some therapists even use antidepressants as a diagnostic tool. If the drugs don't work, they know the patient isn't depressed. "Depression", in the technical sense, refers to some hormonal condition in the body that is causing a person to feel bad. This is what the drugs treat. If someone is feeling bad with an external cause, say, from the passing of a loved one or being cheated on by a spouse, well... no pill can turn back the clock on stuff like that, can it? Therefore, medical people don't regard this as depression.
  • I think a daily dose of sunshine and increased activity levels helps the most...but if that doesnt help then antidepressants can help you get over a rough patch.
  • I'm sure they do, but keep in mind that antidepressants work the same as placebos and can make you feel worse when you're not taking it. I think in the long run, that kind of addiction keeps you from overcoming the root of your depression. I really don't feel antidepressants are necessary for you unless your case is very severe.
  • There's an herb called St. John's Wort that you can get without a prescription at any grocery store. It's for people who are depressed but not severely so. And it works very well.
  • No, there is a big difference between being a little down and depression.
  • they work wonders for me! I was always down and going on major downers and now I just feel evenly the same where I dont give much of a shit anymore about anything. Go get them!! xx
  • Probably not. For one thing, you have to take them for about 3 weeks before noting any effect. +5
  • Nope. I suggest a good run or bike ride and a beer afterwards. The exercise raises the endorphin level and the beer relaxes you. To finish off a perfect day, have a shower then sex and another shower.
