We interrupted our ornery 14 year-old neutered male cat stalking a fox in a neighbor's yard last night. Our cat was clearly the aggressor. (The fox was trying to back away.) How normal is this fool-hardy behavior for a cat?

I think it's fairly common. I used to have a cat (eloquently named Pyscho) that used to chase dogs. People eventually learned NOT to walk their dogs down our street. My former in-laws also have a farm and the cats are always chasing away critters twice their size.

It is not unheard of. His prey drive kicked in and he wanted to hunt. Hopefully he is up to date on his rabies and other vaccinations as it would be unfortunate for him to have to be quarentined for 9 months or put down. We are currently trying to quarentine a dog that attacked a rabid fox in georgia. Good Luck
