Why do we say tooth-paste and not teeth-paste since it is not used on just one tooth when brushing?

Perhaps because you COULD choose to use it on just one tooth. Truthfully, its probably just easier to say.

Because toothpaste was invented in Alabama, otherwise it WOULD have been called teethpaste.

When they were making up the name, the e letter in the typewriter got temperarily stuck and corrected itself by the time it got to the e in paste.They liked the mistake and kept it. Also tooth- paste does not paste out teeth together very well,especially when we rinse.

Well down here in the boonedocks, I always have my neighbors coming to my trailer borrowing the paste for their one and only Big tooth........ We will continue to call it Tooth-paste.

that's a good question I've never thought about that. I think I'm going to start saying teeth-paste it makes more sense.
