  • Not necessarily. They start with an empty box (case). You install a power supply, a mother board, and (usually) one or more plug-in cards, such as a video card. You install one or more hard drives (I always put in two), and one or more optical drives. I always put in two of those as well.   I put a CD burner and a DVD burner in each box. Optical drives cost $20 to $40, so money is not a major issue. Just put in whatever drives you like.
