Why did prince go from the revolution to prince and the revolution, or why did he go from prince and the revolution to just prince, then why did he go from prince to the artist formerly known as prince?

I just know about the last one. He changed him name to a symbol, so no one actually knew how to SAY it. Magazines and stuff had to refer to him as something, so they referred to him as "the artist formerly known as 'Prince.'" He started going by the symbol as a form of protest against his record label (Warner Bros.) He didn't like the way they were using him and his music and felt that they "owned" his name and used it as they pleased, so he changed it. At that time, he also appeared with the word "Slave" on his cheek a lot to represent their mistreatment of him.

Didn't you miss one out? I,m sure he was also known as a symbol of some sort. P.s Maybe because he is a bit of a t**t. (and a miniture one at that)

i beleive he hopped from record label to record label and within the contract he had to only have that name with that record company, i.e prince with BMG and symbol with sony etc

it had something to do with record contracts i think.you missed out that him and his band were also known as prince and the new power generation aswell.
