As a number of Popes in the past have condoned witch and heretic burnings, the killing of Muslims etc, how can Christians claim that apostolic succession is a legitimate God inspired method of appointing good and holy church leaders?

Well Christ had apostles when he was on the earth, whay should we not have them now?

as much as they like the phrase 'god inspired', it's just another way of saying: you better just accept that I'm right and you're wrong. for me, it comes down to people and the decisions they make. there's nothing god inspired or holy about the crusades and the many other examples of oppression and murder because of religion. personally, i reject their claim of divine inspiration and simply ask them to be accountable for their actions. I'm sick of religion getting a free pass. these people need to start taking some responsablity for their own actions.
