  • The answer to your question is yes. When the Vietnam war ended and the Americans were pulling out of Saigon all the Vietnamese agents documents were shredded and a person responsible was supposed to burn them in an incinerator. The person was lazy and just left them outside by the rubbish bins. The Vietcong found the bags gave a team of people the task of piecing them all together. It took some time to accomplish, and they succeeded. The Vietcong them went and arrested all the hundreds of agents and all were executed. This is an extreme example why you should always incinerate your shredded documents
  • If it were a single document that has been shredded, it would be possible to reassemble it. But usually several documents are shredded simultaneously making it nearly impossible to reassemble a single document. Still with persistent effort it might be possible. Thats why all shredded documents are incinerated after shredding.
  • The Iranian student activist who took over the American Embassy put the shredded documents together. They got to identify the American agents and killed them. Burning documents is better, albeit more costly.
