  • The government reflects what we vote in.
  • This is EXACTLY the conversation we had in our house last night. They don't think beyond today. I don't want them running health care and think they should stay the heck out of everything else they're trying to fix, because they are just throwing more and more money away and not fixing anything. I don't know why anyone would DR this question. It seems very reasonable to me. +3 Sorry that's all I have to give. Excellent question!
  • The answer is in the question.
  • If private industry can't do a decent job running banks (Lehmen Brothers, Behr Stearns, Countrywide, etc.), providing insurance (AIG), making investments (Madoff Securities, Stanford Financial Group, Long Term Capital Management, etc.), building automobiles (GM, Chrysler), providing energy (Enron, Dynegy, El Paso Corp., etc.) or creating telecommunications networks (Worldcom, Global Crossing, Adelphia, etc.).... ...why would we let them run our health care system? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_W._McGuire#Resignation http://www.democracynow.org/2009/7/16/former_insurance_exec_wendell_porter
  • We don't look at the polls. Obama want's it so congress will do it. It is not longer about the people and has not been about the people in years. It is about money and power now.
  • Novelty, I suppose. I wonder why we even want government to administer government.
  • And they definitely shouldn't be running the Army, or handling anything like nuclear weapons. Privatise the Army now, each regiment a separate corporation, and float the Nuclear Deterrent on Wall Street.
  • These democrats suck
  • Since a lot of us don't have insurance (i.e. me) we are despereate for something that will help us out. A lot of uninsured people are uneducated and thus think that government control over a large program can actually work (i don't). Desperate times call for desperate measures and if it doesn't work out,(which it most likely wont), then all of the uninsured aren't hurting much worse for trying in their minds. As for me, I enjoy a good competitive free market to keep the prices low and the quality high.
  • Actually, the government runs the very best health care systems the nation has today. They run Medicare, the Veterans Administration and the Federal Heath Care Plan that all your Republican friends in Congress have but want to exclude you from. The Cash for Clunkers program is hardly a failure. It's running out of money because it's been so successful. Clearly we have to decide how much of such 'success' we can afford. But local car dealers are breathing a sigh of much-needed relief. [edit]Found and added the video below to further make the point.
  • actually, sorry to say, but cash for clunkers did so well, that it ran out of funds in three days, as we speak the house is voting on a bill to give another 2 billion to the program because 'cash for clunkers' did that well, probably one of the best programs in recent government, so about health care...
  • First it was "Where is the stimulus money?" Now that its out there, you're all complaining? What? Nothing in it for you yet? Jim answered this Q in the best way - by stating the obvious. The Cash for Clunkers program worked - it moved so many cars that the G couldn't keep up with the applications. And there is now more money available for the program as of today another $2B has been allocated. - I could whine about it as I can't qualify for clunker status. That's because I bought a great car with great fuel economy 5 years ago and have been enjoying filling my car with fuel less than twice a month for all that time. - Obviously there is money out there to be spent as there are more people who'd like to participate in program - and the car dealers are running out of cars (2010 models are not out yet). So how do you figure the G couldn't run this program well? They ran it so well, there are many less cars on dealer lots and more people want to qualify for the program than the program expected? Hey P, trade in that clunker P/U truck for a nice, gas efficient truck.... :D
  • UMMMM they are administering cash for clunkers, 250 000 people have taken advantage of it already...Didnt you get the memo?
  • They can't. Each Adinistration has something "grand" for healthcare and healthcare doesn't ever seem to change much except premiums increasing. There is so much the Government cannot do but looks really great on paper. Local government is not even as efficient as many may feel it should be. I just keep in my mind that people will be placed in any "Administering" of anything and people over centuries have created huge problems for others intentionally and unintentionally. Hopefully just Hopefully our people elected or appointed to work for our country are nothing like those headliners or histroy makers of other countries that desperatley need someone's help.
