  • because those were the only people around.
  • Actually, the resurrection itself wasn't witnessed by anyone but an angel. His disciples didn't see Him rise. They found an empty tomb. However, if you go back and read the Bible, you'll find that His resurrected body was witnessed by hundreds of people, and the disciples name names. They were telling their contemporary readers who and where to go ask if they were skeptical. You don't do that if you are hiding something. The thing you really need to be asking yourself, however, is if the resurrection was a fraud perpetrated by the apostles, what changed their character. You need to remember that they had just watched their leader crucified, the most torturous death that the brutal Roman Empire could devise. They had been so terrified that the apostle closest to Jesus had denied knowing Him. They had spent the three days after the crucifixion in hiding with the doors locked, praying that the Sanhedrin didn't come after them next. These were humble, untutored men and they were terrified. What changed them suddenly into bold preachers who fearlessly carried the Gospel to the furthest corners of the known world at that time? What made them bold enough to come out of hiding? What made them unafraid of being killed themselves, if they didn't know their leader had the power to rise from the dead. Most of them were eventually crucified or met with some equally horrific fate. Why were they no longer cowed by it?
