The average life of a DLP TV bulb (Digital Light Processing bulb) is around 80,000 hours, according to the bulbŐs manufacturers. Once dead, the DLP TV bulb may be replaced.

Hi,R2 here first time answering questions.The hours a lamp might have depend on the brand of the lamp.For example Philips lamps last from 6000-8000 hrs while Osram lamps 4000-5000 hrs.There's also generic lamps that last less then 4000.
The normal Lifespan of a Ultra High Performance Lamp for a DLP TV are the folowing:
Philips 6000-8000 hrs
Osram 3000-4500 hrs
Phoenix 3000-4000 hrs
Generic Lamps 1500-3000 hrs

Hi, its depending your tv model .For some use Osram lamps that average 4000 hrs.Philips bulbs average 6000-8000 hrs.

I am unable to get closed captioning on my Toshiba 42" DLP TV. It will not work either through the TV menu or the cable box menu. Toshiba says that it is because the closed captioning is not compatible with my cable box. That makes no sense to me.

not sure what planet that testing was done but on this planet 4-6 thousand hours is normal, a few will hit 10k hours

I am sorry to contradict you but there's no lamp that averages 80,000 hrs.The most is 8000 hrs and it's made by Philips.
