    Thailand's average rainfall in inches a year is 55 inches (140 cm). The areas of the country that lie closer to the sea receive more rainfall that those in the hinterland. The northeast region, which lies on the leeward side (rain shadow) of Indochina's mountains, is prone to suffering from drought.
