  • Yes, it is legal (assuming you were speaking figuratively when you said "forced to sign"). If he put a gun to your head, or forced you in some other manner, then it would be illegal. However, such an agreement is generally NOT binding. This is true for 1, and possibly 2, reasons: First, in order for a contract to be binding there must be consideration. That is, each side must incur a legal detriment. If there is no consideration, then you don’t have a contract. Rather, what you have is nothing but an unenforceable promise to give a gift. It is unlikely that your employer gave any consideration for this promise. Note: this is why many employers give a severance payment when they fire someone, usually in exchange for signing some sort of non-disclosure agreement. Second, the payment of wages is a duty on the employer (in most states), and therefore, you have no authority to relieve the employer of that duty. I don't know for sure what Florida's law on this is, which is why I said "possibly 2."
