It's always nice to be acknowledged by employees at a business ... but sometimes, when it appears "programmed" or forced .. it is a little annoying. I'm not sure the solution to this ... it's not good to ignore your customers, but I would suggest employees either try to make sure it sounds sincere and natural, or just don't do it all the time.

Yes,if it seemed like you "had" to say it.

I would suggest that, if you have a choice of some kind, that your greetings be varied, so they don't sound "rehearsed." Perhaps the following lines might be used: "Think it'll rain today?" "How are you, this morning?" "Hello! Are things OK with your room?" "How about those Yankees?" "Hi! Have a great day!" "Have you tried the fried eggplant in our restaurant, yet? I understand the sauce bernaise is exquisite." Variety is the key to eliminating boredom from repetition. +5

If it sounded fake or "canned" then yes I might feel a little annoyed. However, I think it is a nice thing to do if it is meant well. Besides, one of those people who gets a really nice greeting might have their other wise sad day brightend up So Much and by So Little Effort on your part.

I try to sound genuine to each person. But the only time I see people is early morning after working the whole night and I am really tired myself.

I would say goodmorning (being the receptionist) when I notice someone is making contact while passing by. Ofcourse I would say goodmorning too when they are right in front of me. People who want attention or ask something will walk up to you. Hard to not notice. I would certainly be annoyed if everytime I walk pass the desk someone is greeting me because I do not feel the need to greet the receptionist either. I would feel totally not comfortable, as if you are watching me everywhere I move in the hotel.

Well, only if I was pacing back and forth in front of your desk and you said "Good Morning!" 30 or 40 times in a row, lol. I think it's NICE to have friendly customer service.
-
I just accept it as standard protocol and say good morning in return. Now that I know you have to say it, I'll walk back and forth over and over and over to see how many times I can get you to say it LOL!!!
-
No. I would walk in front of the desk over and over to see how quickly you got tired of saying it.

Meh, no. That's nothing to get annoyed about.
