I think that's just the way it sounds. They really aren't "singing American-ly". If you listen closely you can hear their Brit accent in some words.

No, but it does annoy me when Australian actors go to Hollywood and all of a sudden lose their accent in interviews, etc. and sound American. This annoys me purely because it seems as if they are trying to shy away from their home land and become something they aren't. Or, I could be reading too much into it ;)

Only certain artists annoy me. The dearly departed band Busted were one of the worst offenders. I switched off if one of their records came on the radio!

In Australia, the biggest offenders are the Country singers....but not all of them. Some are great: they sing Aussie country.

No but it annoys me when people put on fake Southern accents to sing country music.
