  • Actually, my cat just gave birth a few weeks ago. One of the kittens looks just like a cat I had for 20 years and just died last year. We renamed her "Buffy" in memory of my childhood cat.
  • Oh, yes. I have heard that before. One person I know called her dog, "Elmo the second". So, yes, it's fine if it doesn't bother you!
  • Yes, we have had several hamsters with the name of joey, and our current hamster is no exception.
  • Yes, I had a wonderful dog named Beau twenty years ago, and when I got my current dog, I named him Beau in honor of my 1st Beau.
  • My grandmother always had irish setters and cats. All dogs were always named Cindy and the cats Smoky.
  • It's a personal choice so if you are OK with it that is all that matters. Personally I have always felt that I wanted the pet that had died to be remembered as unique, and new pet to have his/her own identity and not to be considered a "replacement", so I have always gone for a new name.
