I work alone. Or I ignore them as much as possible and concentrate on my work. If I have to interact with them, I do my best to overlook my dislike for them. If it gets too bad, I look for a new job or ask to be assigned to another co-worker if that is possible.

First you try to live with it, and if unsuccessful, you try to change them. When all else fails, get them fired or transfered.

Ignore them as much as possible. I am in the same situation, but luckily for me I don't have to work directly with her, yet she feels the need to try to say hi to me (we used to talk once in a while, but I stopped because there was something creepy about her). Ignoring them may lead to them asking why you are doing so (as it happened to me today and I just gave a straight honest answer). Be perpared to give an answer, an honest one if possible. I think my needy co-worker got the point today with my honest answer. If you have to work directly with them, keep it professional and conversation extremely short such as, "Here's the report you needed". If you need to give them something, find a way to lay it on their desk without having to say anything to them, but if the file needs explaining, again, keep it short and professional. I hope this helped some.

Avoidance is not good; and neither is trying to change the situation or jobs as a means to rectify it. There will always be someone you don't like or particularly get along with. My recommendation is to try to be nice (I know its REALLY hard)and try to make them your ally. You never know when the political tide is going to change at your office, and that person could be strengthened by such shifts. It's easy to be labeled as difficult if you're reacting poorly to someone you don't like, but if you're calm cool and collected to them, any bad mouthing they might be doing will just make THEM look like the ass.

The "family" if you know what i mean =)

I ignore them. I'm polite enough to answer questions if they have them, but I don't go out of my way to talk to them.

Outperform them in every aspect of the job w/ extreme prejudice.
