I run into that every now and then. Try using the Edit >> Paste menu command instead of the Ctrl V keyboard shortcut. And remember, if you can't paste, that may mean you aren't copying either. The paste would fail if there were nothing on the clipboard. So use the Edit >> Copy menu to ensure you have something there to paste.
