Why would a town in Iowa be called Atlantic?

local legend tells that the founding fathers estimated that the town was about halfway between the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean, so it lead them to flip a coin and, clearly, Atlantic won.

Just proves that at one time somebody in the town has a sense of humour.

Heck, I dunno! I'm still wondering about "Big Bone Lick National Park" in Kentucky and "French Lick" in Indiana. Speaking of Indiana...I'm also wondering why North Bend is in the south and South Bend is in the north. (South Bend is about 40 miles north of North Bend)
