2000 Honda Accord, the Shift Lock won't allow me to shift out of Park without pressing the Shift Lock Rel button. The manual says a problem is developing with the car, but didn't say what. What could cause this?

The problem could be the brake light switch, which is located by the brake pedal; which also means that you have no brake lights. The problem could also be a problem with the ignition switch it self. There was a recall on the interlock part of the ignition switch but this usually allows you to pull the key out of the ignition without the gear selector in the park position.
