  • I quit well I guess in the last two weeks with Chantix. The stuff has really stopped cravings. I smoked half a pack a day. And since taking it for two weeks I don't even want a cig.
  • well type (smoker lungs) in Goggle and see the photos i bet you will quit immediatly :)
  • Seriously, if you have a true desire to quit for health reasons, I strongly suggest nicotine gum. It really takes care of your cravings as long as you remember to chew a piece every time you feel an irresistible urge to smoke. It even gives you a nicotine buzz. You can chew that instead of smoking and spare your health.
  • I suggest "The EasyWay to Quit Smoking" by Allen Carr. It's a CBT-based guide for helping smokers quit. I used it, and quite a few of my friends did, most successfully. There are no gimmicks involving substituting one nicotine source for another. Basically, it makes you consider why you smoke and dispells the anxiety. It seems to me the people it was less effective on were longer-time smokers. Quitting is pretty easy physically - the trick is mental. You choose to put the cigarette in your mouth. You choose to light up. When you stop smoking, you feel a lot of anxiety that makes you want to start again. The actual physical symptoms from nicotine withdrawal are so mild you hardly notice them. Realizing that, while realizing you don't need to be anxious, is the key to quitting. (BTW, Carr encourages you to smoke while you read. Smoke until you're mentally ready to stop.)
  • The best way is to shoot yourself in the head. That way, even if you live, you probably won't feel like smoking. I tried everything; nicotine gums and patches, pills, nothing really worked until I started into a physical exercise regime. I started at the Y and then I just set a date and quit. Eventually, I began frequenting a place called Hell's Gym. I became addicted to my own endorphines. I started doing things like bicycle touring, kayaking, hiking and surfing -- fun things that fell by the wayside over the years. I avoided smokers for about 90 days. It's been since 2002 and, although I still get a twinge of jones every once in awhile, I feel a lot better, I'm in a better mood, and except for that twinge about once every 6 months, the last thing I think of is a cigarette.
  • The best way to fight an addiction is with another addiction. When you feel like smoking, you must force yourself to do something else you enjoy. Eventually, the cravings will come less and less because you are addicted to something wholesome now.
