  • Guilty as charged...some of the time! I tend not to answer questions written in 'text speak'.
  • Yeah. I think it's annoying how people always comment on such things, especially when doing it is totally irrelevant to whatever question or discussion is going on at the time. People don't seem anymore intelligent when they're in a debate and then start pointing out spelling mistakes instead of addressing the issue at hand for example, I see this here ALL the time. Spelling Nazis make me sick, worse than trolls. Helping someone with their grammar and spelling is totally fine, or pointing out a really bad mistake or again, politely asking to make one's sentence clearer I have no problem with, but nitpicking in the attempts to look all intellectual gets on my nerves, and the worse is, those kinds of people are usually seen making plenty of mistakes themselves. It's hypocritical and irrelevant BS. But eh, I'm a hypocrite myself because I've corrected people before, although usually I'm teasing them, but nobody seems to know what emoticons are for...they think it's a spelling mistake.
  • Only jackassess judge something frivilous as spellig
  • I think some people forget that a lot for a lot of people using the site English is a second language. I dislike Text Speak and abbreviations but if it is a person who is just having a problem with the language I appreciate the fact that they are trying.
  • I honestly think AB isn't critical enough.
  • Not at all! If everyone watches language continue to degrade while doing nothing, at what level will it stop going down-hill?
  • Sometimes. It's annoying when they don't even address the question, and spend the whole answer berating the grammar. The other thing is that sometimes it's hard to tell whether the person is typing in lazy text-speak, or if they aren't that well educated, or if english isn't their primary language.
  • I usually complain if the question or answer doesn't make sense. If you put your time and effort into it, it should be understandable by most.
  • I will sometimes point out grammar and spelling errors, but only to those that decide to attack my intelligence. With cracks me up when someone with grammar and spelling ability on an elementary school level has the nerve to insult someone's intelligence. We all make typos and there are certainly common grammatical errors. However, when it is clear that you are incapable of completing a paragraph of half decent English, not by intentional breaking of rules (slang, etc) or English being a second language, but because you really are too stupid to know the difference between "their", "they're" and "there", you deserve to be laughed at. In normal convo, I ignore grammar and spelling.
  • No I think that it's a very good thing. When you grow up and become an adult you learn to take pride in your achievements. One of those achievements is education, whether by yourself or at an institution like a college or University. You don't have to be really smart to be able to speak well. You don't have to be smart to know how to spell and use basic grammar. You do have to take pride in yourself and it's a matter of personal achievement and self-esteem. Basic pride and self-esteem is missing in our society these days. Those things build confidence and work ethic, another thing we lack in our society, work ethic. Take pride in just doing a good job whether it's spelling or building a tree house for your kids. Take the extra few minutes it takes to make sure you do something as well as you can without being anal about it.
  • Yes,this is an informal setting !!! I sometimes do not use proper grammar and/or misspell words because I'm multi-tasking or watching Tv and I'm not paying attention to my typing. I do not need the grammar/spelling police to correct me on the matter. *There's a certain "QUEEN" who has a hard time getting my point.
