  • I prefer the more-accurate term DINO (Democrats in Name Only) to "Blue Dog". The DINOs existence is the result of a combination of factors: 1) The GOP driving off a right-wing/neoconservative cliff. If the Republican party resembled the party of Eisenhower or Nixon, almost all of the DINOs would be in the GOP. 2) The Southern/rural legacy of never voting Republican because they ended that 'peculiar institution' 3) The dominance of corporate money in politics. Unless you run in a very urban district, the power of corporate/media money will get you run over if you are a Progressive. As for their so-called 'fiscal conservatism', I call BS! I don't remember the DINO/Blue Dogs fighting against the huge budget deficits of the Reagan/Bush/Bush years, and I don't recall any of them complaining about their states/districts getting far more money in federal benefits than they pay in tax revenue. http://democraticactionteam.org/redstatesocialism/index.html
  • Old school is full of it. Blue dog is appropriate. There are those of us who prefer to see a balanced budget, and the National Debt paid off, yet have no problem with gay marriage.
