Yes there are two. One man I met 40 years ago is still a close friend. I worked for him on a volunteer basis as a photographer on his magazine, and we have been in regular contact ever since. A second man I describe as my missing twin brother (remember the movie "Twins"). I met him 15 years ago when he joined the company where I worked. We discovered that we were from the same hometown over 2000 miles away. Through further discussion we found that we lived about 2 blocks from each other and played together as children in the neighborhood; possible attended school together before his family moved.

Yes. I have 3 -- two male and one female. Two friends I met in high school (one who is an Answerbag staffer) are closer to me than my brother (whom I love, but whose personality is not as well-matched to me as my friends' are). The third is the mother of one of the two aforementioned friends. We share an unusually strong friendship despite the nearly-30-year age difference.

I think it's like comparing apples and oranges. There's an unspoken bond with my brother that I could never have with someone I've decided to call my friend.

I wouldn't know, seeing as how I don't have a brother. But I do have a friend who I certainly consider closer than a sibling in any case. Don't get me wrong, I love my sister like... Well, like a sister. But in all honesty, we're not all that "Close". But I definitely would say that this friend of mine is closer than a brother, or just about *any* other person, for that matter.

My closest friend left when I told her I had accepted Jesus as my Savior. I pray for her but have stopped mourning the loss. I feel she is the one who has lost out and hope that one day she will contact me. If she does then we will pick up where we left it. Now my closest friends are those of my church family. The sad thing is I'm closer to my fiancee's family and my friends then my own family. They support me and respect me while my family sets me up to fail so they can say "I told yuo so".

Yes, I have one very close friend and four five other close friends. Many people have mistaken two of us for brothers as we seem so much alike. As far as we know we are not related. All of us have been friends since football days in high school, and have lived though each others' divorces, successes, good times and bad. We no longer live close but still see each about every two months. A few of our wives have been jealous of the closeness of our relationship. Also I have one Army buddy who is close... My brother and I are okay with each other, but not close, i am sorry to say.

Yeah definitely. I guess that depends on how close you are to your brother. My brother is a drug taking, dog abusing, westie bogan who has threatened to kill me. I like my friends better.

If the length of the friendship counts, it would definitely be my kid. Forty-one years so far...my folks are long-since gone, friends have come and gone, partners have floated in and out, but my kid has been there steadfastly.

My best friend, Dennis, he is my family. I am lucky to have crossed paths with him. He is the only person I ever considered a true best friend, he's all I had..until he got married, now I have 2 b/c his wife is just as awesome as he is!!!

Yes i have: My best friend who i find to be the most uplifting person i've ever encountered and who keeps everything i say to herself and my other best friend Dave who has been here for me through a lot of things i don't think i could have gone through on my own, he is my rock.
