There should be council regulations about that. Ring your authorities and report the dog. they will monitor it and, if they see that it is happening as you say, they will issue the family with orders to get the dog silenced, or remove it.

I think that you can actually complain to the council about that. Or if they are renting you can complain to their landlord.

Introduce yourself and welcome them to the neighbourhood (if you've not done that already). Take them a cake or somethin'. Have coffee... While you're there, ask about the dog - does it always bark? Is it just getting used to the surroundings? Yes, it does keep us awake and sends us a bit nuts... See what the reaction is and take it from there! A positive reaction may mean they quieten their dog somehow and you've made some nice new neighbours. If they tell you to get nicked, it's their dog then you can take steps via local council etc. as there are laws regarding noise pollution and animals.

just ask them how u feel, and if they give you s**t about it buy a air soft gun at www.shortyusa.com and start shooting, and it could be used on guy that bug u and u want them to go away. it hurts

I would suggest, if you are here in the States, you start with contacting Noise Abatement, local agency for your area. This way you find out exactly what the laws ARE for your area. In San Diego (when I lived there) if the Dog was being kept IN the house and barked there wasn't a lot you could do. However, if the dog was being kept outside or in the garage, the law then would cover the barking. Once you know YOUR rights. I loved FriarTuck's suggestion...really, it is brilliant! Get to know them. Dogs, like most animals, thrive on ROUTINE. Change, such as moving, upsets their "applecart" in a multitude of ways. Nothing smells the same, looks the same, sounds the same and it can cause just about any dog to become STRESSED OUT and for a time to behave in ways that dog might not normally behave. From Potty Accidents, to Barking, to being generally OFF in play, eating, and even to start destructive chewing that an adult dog may not have done for years! If the dog is stressed and normally does not bark excessively...there are things that can be done to help him/her relax and get back to being calm. Add to your Welcome Wagon goodies...a KONG for the dog! A Kong is hollow and can be stuffed with treats, that the dog then has to work on to get out. You can also stuff it with some tiny bits of human Beef Jerky AND nonfat, plain Yogurt and then FREEZE it over night...this then takes LONGER for the dog to enjoy it, and since the dog smells the yummy beef jerky in the frozen yogurt...it wants to work on the Kong, usually more than doing other unwanted and unappreciated activities! The act of chewing, mouthing is also a CALMING activity for the dog! A Win/Win...AND not only are you welcoming new people to the neighborhood, you've now likely won their hearts because you have also welcomed THEIR BELOVED DOG! Good Luck, hopefully they will be good neighbors, and the dog will settle down too.

I have actually been in this situation. The best way to go about this is to write an anonymous letter and sign it "your neighborhood friends" . Trust me, it works!

Re: I finally got my neighbors dogs to stop barking! I used to have a problem with my neighbors dogs that would constantly bark day and night. At first I thought it would stop but it went on day after day. I finally confronted my neighbor about the problem and he said that he would try to do something about it. I work very long hours and try to get as much sleep as possible but I am constantly awakened by the barking dog many times during the night. You cannot imagine how frustrating this is unless you have been in this situation. I finally ended up going on the internet to research my problem and I am so glad that I did. I ended up buying a compact disc from a website. You play the disc and it actually stops the dogs from barking. I put the disc in, pointed the speakers towards the dogs, and nearly fell out of my chair when it actually worked!!! Somehow, the dogs can hear the sound but humans can’t. This was the best money that I have ever spent and I am so happy. I have not had a problem in 4 weeks. The dogs kind of acted up about 2 weeks ago but I just repeated the above process and it worked like a charm. I am so glad that the freaking dogs have stopped barking. If you want to check it out, it might be worth a try. The website is http://www.TheBarkingDogCD.com Good luck, I hope this helps.
