  • Where they are. Okay -a smart alec response but more right than not. I would surmise that the very best have either been mined or are claimed. Those that have not are unknown and if someone by some small chance had some inside information the chances of them sharing the same is just about nil. +5

  • Do some research to find out where in your local area gold has already been found. Chances are that most of the gold has been recovered in a known area, but not all of it. It is really worth doing some research, otherwise you will be like a blind kid on an Easter egg hunt. A metal detector would be helpful in locating decent sized pieces. I prefer to pan for gold in streams where gold is known to have been found. Look behind rocks in the stream in areas where gold is likely to have gotten stuck moving down stream.
