I believe when they are going in because they have to feed as much as possible to sustain themselves for the winter and thus have food to protect and are looking for food as well! When they come out they are usually hungry but look for the easy food first to get them up and running again! Hope this helps you! +3

Usually near the end of hibernation they have cubs.So now they are not only hungry but are on the look out for danger to their cubs.It is not to say they are dangerous at all,but need to be respected.
