  • No. There are public hospitals in just about every major city to care for the poor through emergency services. One might argue, however, that the level of care is not the same at all hospitals.
  • You can die waiting in Canada too. Where health system is socialized. Plus, in Canada you don't have a choice of the BEST treatment even if you have money and able to pay for a better. You'll get the easiest and the cheapest treatment.
  • Naw, youll get treated. It wont be the best, and youll be in debt...but youll get treated.
  • In MANY cases it is DEFINATELY true ..... Some folks who are welfare will get treated ; although they won't get private rooms or THE best care - treatment ... It is the folks caught in the middle who suffer .... earn too much to be on welfare and not enough for insurance ... so they do not get Hospital Care etc .. and pay the ultimate price in MANY cases .
  • That is not true. If you are that sick, they will let you go ahead the ER room full of all the kids with the common cold, and no health insurance.
  • If the hospital does not take public funds they do not have to admit or treat you. But most hospitals have some type of public subsidy and are required to treat people who cannot pay. That's what is one reason health care is so expensive, people go to the emergency room for things a simple doctors visit could take care of. The cost difference is staggering.
  • Yes its true. Unless its an emergency, and i mean, like cut your foot off emmergency, hospitals are under no obligation to treat you without money. Its better in Socialized nations, because at least there you have a CHANCE of being treated, and you wont have to wory about having your assets siezed. america's health "care" system benefits only the rich. It sucks balls for the poor and middle class.
  • I have a friend who needs a knee operation and can't even walk. She has no insurance..they told her they won't operate because it's not life threatening. So what you heard is true..anyone who says you can get treated in an ER or have surgery without it doesn't know. Yes there is welfare but you have to have NOTHING..and I mean NOTHING..to get a little assistance..You don't just apply and get help like most people think. Those on welfare get way less than adequate care..they get treated like crap..
  • That's not exactly true. A hospital will take you in an emergency situation, regardless of insurance. You are not going to get elective surgery. Unfortunately, what is considered elective is somewhat debatable. For instance, a bypass for a person with a heart condition is considered optional although the odds are great the person will have an other heart attack if they do not have it.
  • NO Insuance or Money then no operation unless it's life threatning . However if you have a family Doctor they might be able to get some type of payment arrangements or arrange to have some type of Charity pay for it . Don't give up trying .
  • If the condition is life-threatening, then what you've heard is not true. But...if you don't have insurance, you're still on hook for the bill. That has, and still does, drive some people into bankruptcy here. In fact, health care costs are one of the most prevalent reasons that people in the U.S. declare bankruptcy. If the condition isn't life threatening, and you don't have insurance, it can be anywhere between exceedingly difficult or downright impossible to get the operation. This is one of the things that our new President is hopefully going to solve -- he's certainly doing his best to solve it.
  • No, it isn't true. No hospital can refuse treatment on any basis. We have in our town a hospital ran on donations and has doctors who volunteer on their free time. If you need and want treatment there are ways to pay for it or have it paid for. The problem isn't as bad as the media and politicians make it out to be. Health care would be affordable to every person if they were just charged the price of treatment and the Doctor's time only, but things like doctor's malpractice insurance, greedy ambulance chasing lawyers, and a bunch of other stuff is added to the price of medical care. Eliminate those things there would be no problem.
