Not really. Birds evolved out of certain small dinosaurs. Those dinosaurs presumably had hollow bones and feathers to run faster and isolate their bodies to balance temperature. They could later have started to use their feathers for gliding small distances when they start from trees. And keep in mind that those changes took millions of years, it didn't happen from one day to the other.
