    The lowest ranking peerage title. Barons were often given small plots of land to run at the King or Queen's pleasure.
    A Baroness is the honourific Title granted to the wife of a Baron and they are refered to as "Lady" except in the case of a female gaining the title in her own right, such as Baroness Thatcher, who is refered to by proper title "Baroness"
