  • All peoples face the threat of rape and beatings today. Therefore, some Roma gypsies do too.
  • Yes. However, the difference between our women being raped and any of us being beaten and/or murdered and Gadje being raped, beaten, and murdered is that few care about us. Those that do (blessings on them) do not have enough power to make a difference. We have been dehumanized and scapegoated. It is easy to not care or even rejoice if the "thing" you do it to is subhuman and you believe it to be the architect of all of your woes, thus despising it. Also, law enforcement often joins in in doing things like firebombing shantytowns. Very few stand up for us and, if crimes against us are forced to be looked into, it is only by extreme insistence and the matter quickly dropped. We cannot go to the police because that is a bad thing for us. Going to the police in EU is a ticket to more beatings, mockery, being arrested ourselves, up to murder. Then our family and communities get it. EU is a bad place for us and the United Nations turns a blind eye to us. Various Gadje organizations like Amnesty International, smaller organizations, and individuals fight for us and are completely ignored.
