  • With Elvis, people were sad, but the media didn't go crazy. MJ's funeral was more like that of a head of state. Insane!
  • When Elvis died, we didn't have the Internet, constant 24 hour news stations, TV stations on 24 hours of the day and night -- if we had those at Elvis' death, I believe the same thing would have happened. [ Though so many people's fascination with Jackson's personal life increased the publicity, too.] In my opinion. :)
  • I was too busy working and taking care of a toddler at the time. Didn't have much time for television or the news when he died!
  • I was only 16 at the time of his death, but I only remember them televising a long funeral procession. I don't remember all the hoopla we're having for Michael Jackson. It could be that we have more ways of communicating now, but I think it's just been treated more like a president passed away rather than a super star musician.
  • I remember when all my idols died John Lennon, Princess Di, Steve McQueen and Bing Crosby. They all had a lot of media coverage but more outporeing from fans because they were loved and admired more.Elvis too!
  • I really don't remember much about Elvis' death. If he died in modern times, he would have had the same treatment as Michael Jackson. There was no CNN or other 24 hour cable news networks when Elvis died. My family didn't have cable TV in 1977. And who had Internet access back then?
  • They are better at putting on a show these days.
  • I still remember the day the King died and what I was doing at the time and yes his fans were in total shock at the news as it slowly trickled through( remember this was back in 1977) and the communication was not what it is today
  • Honestly, if you look at anything and everything during this time of over drama and essesive access to the world - it is ALL over done and for the sake of making money! People PAID to be in the presence of a dead body. I find that more sad then his death.
  • Nope. It was the same royal hoo-hah.
